It has been an exciting season for the girls football team. They have always shown interest in the sport but the last couple of years they have become more structured and scheduled. Last year a team from Port Maitland, Nova Scotia came and built a football field on-site and bought the team jerseys which has encouraged them into a league. They are the Cimarronas ( Stallions).
A volunteer coach comes to Pan de Vida 4 nights a week to have practice with the girls. It has been a real growing experience as the girls have chores and school work. They have learned to become responsible in getting all of the obligations done in order to play. The girls say it has taught them teamwork among one another on and off the field. As many on the team are Christians, they have also used it as a time to witness to teams that they interact with.
All of the hard work paid off for the girls as they made it all the way to the finals. Even though they did not win the game, it was a victory all the same. Many of the other teams have players much older and have been playing together for years. Pan de Vida has a few mature ball players but some are beginners at the age of 14.
Icing on the cake was that the game was played in Querétaro for the 1st time and was against the Gigantes (Giants) who are also from Querétaro. This meant that the whole Orphanage was able to attend the game giving us the biggest cheering section with homemade drums from buckets. So yes, the day was a victoious one for all of the kids as they ended this season.
Psalm 133:1 How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!
